Doug still builds models when possible, but he has branched into cars instead of just airplanes and ships, with his corvettes contributing to a 3rd place club win at the nationals in Columbus, OH for IPMS Nationals. He also drove to Iowa with friends for the Regional competition and was a judge at a number of shows. He just finished his term as President of his local IPMS club.
In 2011, Robin created a new website for Doug's practice:

Doug finally admitted that he likes running, with his long runs getting longer and longer. He finished his first half-marathon in 1:45:00 and loved it. While working toward a marathon, however, he gradually tore up his knee and went in to have simple orthoscopic surgery that would allow him to continue toward his goal. When the surgeon saw the inside of his knee, the plan changed and he had an 8-week recovery that might allow him to run again, but he still believes he’ll be signing himself up for an early knee replacement (it’s hereditary) if he keeps running. So he joined a gym with a pool and gets up at 4:00 a.m. most mornings so that he can swim a mile and work out before going to work.
His interest in stamp collecting was rekindled when he was given his grandfather’s stamp collection (started by his great grandfather). He wants to honor them by expanding the collection and spends many free moments perusing his albums. |
